Baby Thought Dead

Miracles do happen and this little baby is proof of it.  For many mothers of stillborn children, they never see their babies' bodies.  I empathisize with those parents because I cannot imagine carrying a baby for 9 months, labor to deliver and not be able to take that baby home.  For these parents, they wanted to say goodbye one more time, and they are very thankful that they made that choice.

Hot Baby Names of 2012

Hot baby names for 2012.  I am a bit of a rebel, but I do so enjoy looking and NOT seeing my 3 children's names on the list.  I like the fact that their names are more uncommon without being strange.  During my weeks of pregnancy with each of them, my first labor pains were of what to name them.  It is very important step and I wanted to make sure that I got their names right.

Benefits of Prenatal Yoga

As a woman who has had three children and discovered yoga after giving birth, I can see how yoga would have benefited me during labor and delivery.  For me, I never thought of the poses helping my labor, but the paranyama breathing.  That type of deep breathing is meant to help a person focus and breathe through the pain of a difficult yoga pose.  You can use that same philosophy to help breathe through the pain of labor.  We know that laboring without interventions is the best choice for your baby but for many women, the fear of labor and its associated pain actually makes their laboring more difficult.  Imagine being so tense and scared of something and then trying to actually do it.  You freeze up.  That is what can happen when a person is terrified of giving birth and can lengthen your laboring time.  Yoga can help in all those areas.

75 Days In Labor?

I don't know if I can say that this woman was in labor since my thought is that labor is painful contractions, but she is to be awed for staying in bed with her feet above her head for 75 days.  And I have both good wishes and sympathy for her as she can now take home 2 of her 3 babies.  Such joy to have two healthy babies and such sadness to have to mourn the one that she lost.

Snoring and Behavioral Issues

I found this interesting as I had a child with behavioral issues.  Now, this child is almost 18 and in college, but when he was younger, he had a huge problem with controlling his temper.  To this day, we can hypothesize why he got angry so easily and there have been many ideas put out there, but we don't really know.  I can still see the anger in him at times, but he has learned to control it, with maturity and a commitment to faith.  He was not a huge snorer as an infant, but he did snore at times.  This is an interesting idea and for those of you who are pregnant, anything that can help with early detection leads to prevention rather than reaction.  Preventing issues is always better than having to react to something that has already occurred.

What To Expect When You're Expecting

I don't normally promote movies on this site, but this movie is perfect for what we talk about.  And it looks like it's going to give all truths, not just the ones people tell you when they rave about being pregnant.  And it's ok not to always like being pregnant. :)

Pregnancy and The Right To Do Our Jobs

When I was pregnant with my last two, I had pre-term contractions and had to go on bedrest to prevent early births.  With my last one, my former supervisor was not supportive nor understanding and I was a Toddler Teacher.  While on maternity leave, she filled my position and offered me a lesser one, with less pay.  Now that I am older, I know that this is illegal, but at the time, I was so upset, I quit immediately.  Pregnany is the way our species stays on this planet and when women get pregnant, they should not be mistreated by the people they work for or with.  Those people came from pregant women, too.  No matter what week of pregnancy a woman is in, she has the right to work and the right to protect her child.  Those two things shouldnt be at odds.

This Story Made Me Cry

I am an avid opponent of inducing labor when it isn't necessary, but this story, this inducement wasn't medically necessary, it was necessary for this family and this man.  My prayers go out to this mom and her children.  What a sad and beautiful story that promotes love and family which is what we want to do at Pregnancy Stages Week By Week.

Cell Phones to Help Mothers and Babies

Sometimes you have to grow with the times.  I realized that recently when my son's teacher texted me information.  It actually worked for me and for him.  I was able to get the information that I needed and he was able to communicate with me without taking away from his busy day.  I can see how this text4baby.org will help pregnant women and raise the quality of care that they receive.  It won't take the place of monthly prenatal visits but it will help keep the lines of communication open using today's technology.
